Matt Miller, Bleacher Report‘s NFL Draft analyst, posted a new 32 player “big board” for next year’s NFL Draft, and he has a somewhat surprising No. 1: Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen.
Allen comes in ahead of perhaps the most popular early favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft: USC quarterback Sam Darnold.
His top 10:
- Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming
- Sam Darnold, QB, USC
- Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
- Christian Wilkins, DL, Clemson
- Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
- Derwin James, S, Florida State
- Connor Williams, OT, Texas
- Arden Key, DE/LB, LSU
- Malik Jefferson, LB, Texas
- Mikah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama
Allen may be a small school gunslinger, but he is far from an unknown. He threw for 3,203 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions for a solid 8.59 yards per an attempt last season, leading the Cowboys to the Poinsettia Bowl. We had Allen ranked in the top 10 of our early NFL Draft prospects list last month, while Todd McShay has mentioned him as a secondary possibility, behind Darnold, for the No. 1 spot next season.
A lot of it will depend on where the teams shake out after next year, and needs at quarterback, but Allen has some serious arm talent, should put up big numbers next season, and is already getting some hype this off-season.
