A Kyrie trade seems inevitable.
Kyrie Irving reportedly asked for a trade in early July.
On Friday, however, that news leaked. In the subsequent four days, a litany of trade offers have been thrown around linking Irving to several teams around the NBA.
It looks like a Kyrie Irving trade will happen before the season starts, but what will the Cavs get in return for trading one of their star players?
According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, here’s what Cleveland is looking for in a Kyrie Irving trade.
They would like to get everything: one or two veterans who can help LeBron dethrone Golden State, that blue-chipper, and picks. They want to prepare for a worst-case scenario of LeBron leaving without shoving him out the door by acquiring players he deems unready. Even so, the blue-chipper appears to be their guidepost, sources say.
Irving is one of the best point guards in the NBA, and deserves a king’s ransom. However, the Jimmy Butler and Paul George trades, which fetched very little, have to be in the minds of the Cavs’ front office.
They don’t want to get fleeced before the season begins, especially when LeBron is likely to leave after this season.
