The Cavaliers and Celtics played an intense season opener, with the defending Eastern Conference champion Cavs coming out on top at home, 102-99.
The obvious headline heading into the game was the showdown between former co-stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, which dominated much of the off-season.
However, things were derailed pretty quickly, with a gruesome ankle injury to Celtics star forward Gordon Hayward midway through the first quarter. James and former Celtics Isaiah Thomas reportedly went to wish Hayward well between quarters.
After things got back underway, we were treated with a pretty fantastic game. The Cavaliers jumped out to a decent lead, but the Celtics roared all the way back. Ultimately, Cleveland pulled it out at home on a huge Kevin Love three. Irving had a chance to tie things at the buzzer. While his shot was on line, it was just short.

After the shot fell short, Irving and James, who have been not-so-subtly throwing shade at each other for months, had a nice embrace.

There are probably still plenty of harsh feelings on both sides, but for a moment, it was good to see them hug it out a bit.
