The power couple of the NBA is no more.
New York Knicks President Phil Jackson and Los Angeles Lakers part-owner and President Jeanie Buss have ended their long-term engagement. The couple became engaged in January 2013, but have called things off in what seems like a mutual parting.
Jackson released a statement on Twitter regarding the break-up, citing professional obligations and the distance between the two as reasons for the split.
By all appearances, this is an amicable split. Buss expressed her admiration for Jackson on Twitter as well.
At this point, it doesn’t look like Phil is going back to Los Angeles to take a job with the Lakers as many speculated.
He and Buss began dating in 1999 when he was in his first year coaching the Lakers. She is the daughter of longtime Lakers general manager Jerry Buss.
