The Battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy was an epic one today, but Iowa came out ahead in a comeback overtime victory, and offensive tackle James Daniels probably had the day’s best celebration.
Iowa State looked like it would land a huge home win over its hated rival, but the Hawkeyes scored with 1:09 remaining in regulation on a 46-yard pass to star running back Akrum Wadley, tying the game at 38.
Iowa State opened overtime with a field goal to go up 41-38, but quarterback Nathan Stanley answered with a big-time strike to Ihmir Smith-Marsette for the game-winning touchdown.
Stanley finished with a huge stat-line: 27-for-41 for 333 yards and five touchdowns.
Nate Stanley to Ihmir Smith-Marsette wins it.

I have no idea how he got from the field into the front row in what seemed like 15-seconds. That’s some serious hustle. No one was having more fun in the world at that moment than Daniels.
With the win, Iowa moves to 2-0 on the season. It hosts North Texas next weekend.
