Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech picked the wrong time to make a mental error.
The 3000 meter steeplechase final at the World Championships was held on Friday night, and Americans Emma Coburn and Courtney Frerichs finished 1-2 to take both the gold and the silver. But there was another moment during the event that has people talking.
Kenyan competitor Beatrice Chepkoech, who finished fourth, completely missed one of the water jumps in the early part of the race.
Chepkoech did recover to the pack, but there’s no doubt it cost her energy.

While the moment was embarrassing, at least she turned herself around and finished out the race.
Props to all the competitors – it’s one of the toughest long-distance running events out there.
