We’re about four months away from one of the most-exciting times in the sports year – NBA free agency. This year’s group is a special one.
LeBron James is expected to opt out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer. He’ll become a free agent.
For most of the year, only a couple of teams have been mentioned as serious contenders for the King. Those teams – Cavs, Lakers, Rockets.
A new contender appears to be emerging, though. The Philadelphia 76ers.
A rumor surfaced over the All-Star Break that James had been looking at private schools in Philadelphia. James has three kids, two of which are rising basketball prospects.
Now, we have a more firm report. An NBA reporter is saying the James to Philly talk is real.
“After speaking to several individuals around the league the past few days, LeBron to Philly has a much higher percentage of happening than most think. One league source told me, “50/50,'” reports Jon Johnson.

As with every LeBron James free agency report, it’s important to take these with a lot of speculation. There are still several months left in the NBA season.
It’s very possible – really likely, even – that James is unsure about what he’s going to do. It would make sense for him to just wait until the summer and see where everyone stands then.
But imagining a LeBron James-Joel Embiid pairing is pretty fun…
