While these aren’t quite the NCAA sanctions that are being handed down to other teams, punishments handed out by Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham are not to be taken lightly.
On Monday, ESPN reported that Whittingham has suspended key defensive player Brian Blechen three games for violating team rules. Which actual rules were broken were not released.
Blechen is projected as the team’s starting safety. He forced three fumbles and had three interceptions as a sophomore last season.
While the first two games may not be in doubt without Blechen’s presence, the third game he will miss is against BYU, a team projected to win 10+ games in 2012.
