The top overall recruit in the country will announce where he’s headed Friday night.
Friday night, the top overall recruit in the country, R.J. Barrett, will officially announce where he’s headed to play his college basketball. But while many expect him to pick either Duke or Kentucky, it’s a third program – dark horse Oregon – that one scout thinks Barrett will pick.
A report by North Pole Hoops scout Tariq Sbiet suggests that Oregon will be the team to land Barrett’s services. He thinks that the fact that Oregon landed Abu Kigab for the 2017 class is a big deal.
“They’ve easily done the best job recruiting Canadian players over the years. They have been in Canada the most and invested the most time and energy into it. This is what gives them an edge, along Abu Kigab.
He’s a huge X-factor because when you win a World Championship together, that’s a special bond. He’s the only one in the NCAA from those schools (Duke, Oregon and Kentucky) that has a player with a world champion teammate. This is also a basketball program that has been getting better every year, emerging into a national champion contender.”
Sbiet says it’s his “guess” that Barrett winds up at Oregon.
Obviously, if Barrett picks Oregon, it’s a bigger deal than if he picks Duke or Kentucky. The Blue Devils and Wildcats load up on top talent every year.
Barrett is set to announce his decision tonight at 6:00 PM ET. Don’t be surprised if he winds up heading to Eugene, Oregon.
