The United States men’s national soccer team has been partaking in a pre-World Cup training camp at Stanford since May 12. The camp started out with 30 players, but coach Jurgen Klinsmann recently trimmed the roster to the final 23 men that will be traveling to Brazil in early June.
The footballers have apparently been enjoying their time in Palo Alto, Calif. The players have been training at the Cardinal’s football stadium, using their athletic facilities and eating in the school’s cafeterias.
“It’s cool to be among all these ‘smartheads,’ ” Terrence Boyd told the Mercury News. “It’s nice to see the college since I didn’t experience it myself.”
The team’s star, Clint Dempsey, has spent some of his time on campus hanging out with the university’s band.
The team plays Azerbaijan in a friendly on May 27 in San Francisco. Their first game in Brazil is June 16 against Ghana.
