Update: …and it’s official. Scout is now reporting the same – Vanderdoes has been declared eligible to play in 2013 by the NCAA.
Earlier: Earlier this spring, top recruit Eddie Vanderdoes angered the Notre Dame faithful by backing out of his National Letter of Intent and informing the Fighting Irish that he would be transferring to UCLA to remain close to his family — despite the fact that UCLA is still roughly seven hours from his home in Placer, California.
It was expected that Vanderdoes would have to sit out a year under normal transfer rules, but UCLA and Vanderdoes appealed that decision — today, Rick Kimbrel, formerly of Rivals.com, is reporting that Vanderdoes has been given the go-ahead to play in 2013:

If true, this is a huge win for the Bruins — Vanderdoes is a former 5-star talent who is expected to make an immediate impact. On the flip-side, Notre Dame fans will be furious, considering the NCAA just ruled that signing a NLI essentially meant nothing in this case.
