Out of all the people who have played football at Auburn, Cam Newton is probably one of the program’s best spokesmen. The former quarterback won a national championship and the Heisman in his lone season playing for the Tigers. So it should come as no surprise that Newton was recently trying to sway an Alabama commitment to his alma mater.

Newton was in Atlanta on Thursday for his foundation’s annual 7-on-7 tournament. One of the teams in the field was Columbus (Ga.) Carver, who sports Mekhi Brown, an Alabama commitment for 2015.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback offered Brown some advice on his college choice.
“(Newton) was just like Alabama ain’t where I need to be. He was talking to one of my teammates who had on an Alabama visor. He was talking about how he needed to get an Auburn visor and stuff like that. It was crazy,” Brown said.
“He was like, ‘you don’t need to worry about that. Come with Auburn.'”
Brown is a weak-side defensive end who is rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com.
