Hiring a new football coach can be a tricky thing, especially if the coach you’re trying to hire is employed by another university. Logic would probably dictate that when you are in the process of hiring a coach away from another school, you’d probably inform the school that a deal is going down.
Unfortunately for Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez, that is reportedly not what happened when Arkansas hired former Badger head coach Bret Bielema. According to Arkansas AD Jeff Long, he never notified Alvarez of the hiring, something he regrets not doing.
Jeff Long admits he didn’t notify Alvarez when hiring Bielema: “Coach told me he would notify AD. I took easy way out. It was a mistake”

College football can be a cruel business, but it’s nice to see that Long is showing remorse for his mistake.
