This is one of the best stories you’ll see today. Adam Deacon, an offensive lineman to the Arkansas Razorbacks, lost his mother to ALS. With the rise in popularity of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema asked Deacon to explain the disease and what it does to people and those close to them last Tuesday. After Deacon was done with his speech, Bielema surprised him by offering him a full scholarship. Here’s Bielema discussing the decision and Deacon with ESPN’s Dari Nowkhah:
The next day, Bielema took the challenge himself, and challenged Paul Finebaum, Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long, and ESPN’s Joe Tessitore.
This is a great gesture by Bielema and the Arkansas football program to honor Deacon. The team will kick off the 2014 season on August 30, when the Razorbacks travel to take on Auburn.
