The Iron Bowl rivalry has always been intense, and now it’s spilled over into church. Saint Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Auburn is known having jokes and humorous phrases on its marquee, and yesterday, the church took a funny jab at Alabama coach Nick Saban.
The sign reads “Support the ban on slingshots – Goliath”, which may not have seemed like much, except that it was posted the day before the rules committee was supposed to vote on the pace of play rule that many called the “Saban Rule.”
While the quote doesn’t obviously reference Saban, parish priest Monsignor William Skoneki admitted that the Alabama coach does fit the joke:
“Coach Saban is a good Catholic, actually, a daily mass Catholic. But on the field, he’s more of a Goliath.”
Luckily for Auburn fans, the Tigers ‘slingshot’ offense will still be allowed to run at full-speed in 2014.
