Perhaps the Florida Gators prepared for College of Charleston by watching Rookie of the Year. UF pitcher Logan Shore acted as the decoy, pretending to tie his shoes while shortstop Richie Martin actually held the ball in his glove. College of Charleston’s Nick Pappas, unaware, stepped off second base just enough for Martin to swoop in and tag him. It’s a move that is rarely used in college or the pros, but was popularized in the 1990s classic.
Despite the gaffe, College of Charleston still pulled off the upset win, 3-2.
