The Falcons blew a 28-3 lead to the Patriots in last year’s Super Bowl. Georgia just blew a 13-point lead to Alabama in the national title game. It’s been a tough year for Georgia football fans.
Be nice to all of the Georgia Bulldogs/Atlanta Falcons fans in your life over the next few days.
Less than a year after the Falcons’ historic Super Bowl collapse to the New England Patriots, the Bulldogs blew a similar, if not as drastic, opportunity to Nick Saban, a Bill Belichick acolyte, and Alabama.
For a few minutes, after Alabama kicker Andy Pappanastos missed a game-winning kick at the end of regulation, it looked like Georgia may avoid the fate. However, true freshman Tua Tagovailoa won the game on an instantly legendary 2nd and 26 bomb in overtime to win the game 26-23.

Falcons blew a 28-3 lead. Georgia blew a 20-7 lead. Oops.

Atlanta Falcons: "Man, they'll only be one team from Georgia to blow a lead in a championship game…."
Georgia Bulldogs: "Hold my peaches"#NationalChampionship

Falcons and Bulldogs both lose championships in overtime within 12 months of each other. Spending your whole life as a Georgia sports fan must be the worst thing ever.

The Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs have lost the Super Bowl and the College Football National Championship in the past 11 months on walk-off overtime touchdowns in games they led or tied for the entirety of regulation.

Don’t let the fact that Georgia blowing a 13-0 lead in the national title game distract you from the fact that the falcons blew a 28-3 lead in the super bowl distract you from the fact that the warriors blew a 3-1 lead #CFPChampionship

The Georgia Bulldogs just blew the national title. They went up 20-7, and got conservative. Took their foot off the throttle in the 2nd half. Just like the Falcons did. Is this a Georgia thing?

Georgia has an unbelievable, top-ranked recruiting class coming in next year, and is way ahead of where most reasonable people thought when the program fired Mark Richt and hired Kirby Smart. The Falcons had one of their best outings of the season with a road upset of the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card Round over the weekend, and play a Carson Wentz-less Philadelphia Eagles team this weekend. Still, it’s going to take a while for fans to get over another championship loss like this.
