The Kentucky Wildcats send a handful of players to the NBA every year under John Calipari, and this year will be no different. Power forward Julius Randle will be one of the first players off the board, and guards James Young and Andrew and Aaron Harrison all have rising draft stocks after a strong NCAA Tournament run.
ESPN NBA Insider Chad Ford was interviewed by Kyle Tucker for The Courier-Journal, and believes that eight Wildcats in all could be drafted this year, if they were all to declare.
Ford rates Julius Randle, James Young and Willie Cauley-Stein as certain first-round picks and thinks Andrew and Aaron Harrison, Dakari Johnson and Alex Poythress are late-first or early second-round selections…
“I even think Marcus Lee would be drafted,” Ford said. “All eight players from Kentucky would be drafted. That’s amazing, but it’s true.”
Ford believes that Randle, Young, and the Harrison twins are all good bets to declare, while Johnson, Poythress, Lee, and even Willie Cauley-Stein are up in the air, and could return.
It is unlikely that all eight players decide to leave, especially Lee who didn’t see much playing time for long stretches this season, but even the notion that a team could have that many players picked in one drafted is wild.
