One of the most memorable scenes from the greatest basketball movie of all time, “Hoosiers,” occurs when the Hickory High team enters the massive Hinkle Fieldhouse gym.
Overwhelmed by the sheer size of the arena, coach Norman Dale, played by Gene Hackman, calms the nerves of his players by measuring the size of the court. The squad’s smallest player, “Ollie,” climbs the shoulders of a bigger teammate and uses a measuring tape to read out the height of the rim, length to the free throw line, etc.
The Kentucky men’s basketball team is currently in the Bahamas for a preseason trip and it appears that coach John Calipari pulled a Norman Dale.
While Calipari was really just measuring the height to truly make sure it’s regulation size, we couldn’t help but draw comparisons to this classic scene:
Kentucky will play six games against international competition in the Bahamas, starting Sunday.
