Mississippi State is reportedly finalizing a deal to make Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead its next head coach.
In December 2008, Mississippi State hired Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen, a Pennsylvania native, to lead the program.
After an incredibly successful nine-year run for Mullen in Starkville, the Bulldogs have tabbed another offensive guru from the North to keep the momentum rolling.
According to Brett McMurphy and USA Today‘s Dan Wolken, Joe Moorhead will be the next coach at Mississippi State.

On Monday night, it was reported that Moorhead was “in the mix” for the job. Just a day later, it looks like he’s landed the gig.
The 44-year old Fordham alumnus spent four years as head coach of his alma mater, leading the Rams to three FCS Playoff berths before taking the offensive coordinator job at Penn State. Last year, he led the dynamic Nittany Lions offense to a Big Ten championship, and followed it up with another big year in 2017.
Now, he is helmed with taking over for Mullen, and he’ll have a lot of talent to work with, including Nick Fitzgerald, one of the SEC’s best quarterbacks. This is a bit of an out-of-the-box hire given Moorhead’s lack of SEC experience, but the man can coach offense.
