Ole Miss vs. Boise State may not be the sexiest college football affair of the opening weekend, but it may be one of the more competitive. The Rebels, ranked 18th in the country according to the AP Poll, will no doubt have their hands full with the Broncos.
No, Boise State does not have coach Chris Petersen at the helm – he left for Washington after last season – but it does return the majority of a roster that put together 19 wins over the past two seasons. This one could be a slugfest.

Prediction: There are many who believe that Ole Miss is going to have a special season. Hugh Freeze has done an incredible job when it comes to recruiting the past two seasons, and it makes sense that victories should follow. Guys like Robert Nkemdiche, Laremy Tunsil and Laquon Treadwell are soon going to turn the Rebels into a force.
But let’s be honest – it’s not like Boise State hasn’t pulled off some incredible upsets in the past decade. The Broncos were perhaps the premier “BCS buster” program and have taken down giants Oklahoma, Georgia and Oregon. Will that trend continue under new head coach Bryan Harsin? We’ll find out soon.
We’ll take Ole Miss to win the game, but Boise State to cover the spread. The Rebels probably have too much talent right now, and the Broncos aren’t quite the same team they were a few seasons ago.
