Earlier Wednesday, Arizona State walk-on lineman Edward “Chip” Sarafin revealed, via a profile by Compete Magazine, that he is gay. It didn’t take long for St. Louis Rams defensive end Michael Sam, who came out this past February, to take to social media to show his support for Sarafin, who will soon become the first openly gay active college football player. Check it out:
Congratulations Chip Sarafin for having the courage to be yourself. Wishing you and your teammates much success this season. #courage2014

Sam was taken in the seventh round by the Rams, and is currently in the process of trying to make the roster and thus become the first openly gay active NFL player. Regardless of whether either make it on the field this year, they’ve certainly had a huge impact on the 2014 football season.
