The first major game of the 2014 college football season features Texas A&M and South Carolina. The Aggies and the Gamecocks will meet in Columbia, S.C. on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m.
It’s the first matchup of the two schools since Texas A&M joined the SEC, meaning it’s also the first bout between Aggies’ coach Kevin Sumlin and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier. The Old Ball Coach is known to have one of the biggest mouths in college football, but Sumlin said today that he’s noticed his colleague hasn’t said much about his team this offseason. Sumlin thinks he knows why that is the case, too.
“Coach Spurrier has been really quiet this summer…which means that he thinks South Carolina is going to be really good.” –@CoachSumlin

Both schools are likely to start the season ranked in the top 15. ESPN.com’s Mark Schlabach has South Carolina at No. 10 and Texas A&M at No. 14 in his preseason poll.
