Update: Clowney himself has now confirmed the 4.46 time. Charles Bloom, Senior Associate AD at South Carolina, made the news official this afternoon.

Earlier: South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is already the most feared college football player in America. If we’re to believe his teammate Mike Davis, he’s also one of the fastest.
Davis claimed today on Twitter that Clowney ran a 4.46 40-yard dash – an impressive feat for any player, much less one who weighs 275 pounds.
Think Clowney ran a 4.46

Granted, this was at practice, so it was probably measured using a stop watch instead of an electronic timer. Still, the fact that he’s in the mid-4’s is crazy.
Clowney is widely regarded as the top pro prospect in the college game. His hit on Michigan’s Vincent Smith near the end of this past season’s Outback Bowl further cemented his legacy as one of the game’s best defensive ends.
