Steve Spurrier is always good for a quote, and today he bestowed a new award upon his South Carolina Gamecocks after their 11-2 record and Capital One Bowl victory over Wisconsin:
Sorry Auburn and FSU, Spurrier says, “I declare South Carolina the national champion of the bowl season.” USC beat 6 bowl winners.

The Head Ball Coach has been big on giving his team new awards over the last few days. After the win over Wisconsin, he referred to his Gamecocks as “state champions“, a needling reference to USC’s rivalry week victory over Clemson. The “national champion of the bowl season” refers to the fact that South Carolina leads the nation in wins over bowl victors with six, including Clemson and UCF who won the Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl, respectively.
