Without question, the marquee event of the 2016 college football regular season is going to be the ‘Battle at Bristol’ between Tennessee and Virginia Tech. The two squads will be playing at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee (almost exactly midway between campuses), which can seat 160,000 fans. It’s expected to be the highest-ever-attended college football game.
Soon after the announcement, we saw the two coaches, Butch Jones and Frank Beamer, taking photos with the official “race cars” for the event. Today, we’ve learned that the duo have been bestowed a great honor this upcoming weekend. Jones and Beamer will be serving as co-Grand Marshals for this Sunday’s Food City 500.

While the timing is a bit early, considering the game is still over two years away, it’s still cool to see both coaches getting involved however they can to hype up the event. If the game is a success, expect organizing college football matchups at major racetracks to become a trend.
