A source in the UT athletic department with knowledge of the situation told govolsxtra.com that Trae Golden’s departure from the university is “based on academics” and a result of “repeated plagiarism.”
The source also stated that Golden would not be permitted to attend summer school in order to repair his academic standing.
The University of Tennessee has a zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism.

This is the first known explanation of Golden’s departure after head coach Cuonzo Martin addressed the media earlier in the day. It is unknown whether this will be officially confirmed by a university official.
