A new report has surfaced about free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Per Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star, the Kansas City Chiefs never offered Mathieu a chance to stay. He became a free agent without even getting a contract offer.

In the article, Mathieu confirmed to McDowell that he was pretty upset about what transpired since he wanted to return to the Chiefs. “Bro, I was depressed,” Mathieu said. “Heartbroken. Heart. Broken." “I could not understand it. I could not, man.” Mathieu has spent the last three seasons with the Chiefs and is coming off another stellar season with them. He finished with 76 total tackles (60 solo), one sack, three fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and six passes defended. He's the best safety left on the free-agent market and will still likely get a lucrative contract whenever he chooses to sign. The NFL world is stunned that Mathieu didn't get a chance to return.

Mathieu is taking his time before he chooses his next destination.
