The Temple Owls are working quickly to find a replacement for head coach Geoff Collins, and are setting their ambitions relatively high this offseason.
According to FootballScoop, Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko and Miami (FL) defensive coordinator Manny Diaz are among the top candidates for the job.
As with a wide variety of Temple head coaching hires from the last decade, Elko and Diaz have no prior college head coaching experience. Both coaches are also young, aged 41 and 44, respectively.
Elko has put together Top-50 defenses in stints with Bowling Green, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame. Notably, his defense in 2013 at Bowling Green was ranked No. 10 in the nation and helped pave the way for the Falcons to win the MAC Championship.
Diaz has served in a variety of different defensive jobs, including NC State, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, and Texas prior to his current stint in Miami.
The Owls are coming off their fourth straight winning season, but are looking for their fifth head coach in the last nine years. Each of their last four head coaches has accepted a job at a different school. Most recently, Collins accepted the vacant head coaching job at Georgia Tech.
