Temple looks to have locked in its replacement for Geoff Collins. Miami defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is set to take the reins in Philly, according to a new report.
Earlier today, Stadium’s Brett McMurphy called Diaz the “top candidate” at Temple. Now, Yahoo’s Pete Thamel is reporting the two sides are finalizing a deal.
Diaz has spent the last three seasons as Miami’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. He will take over for Collins, who left the Owls for Georgia Tech.
Other reported candidates for the position included Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown and Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko.

Diaz has never been a head coach before, but he has longtime experience as a DC, having served in that role at Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Texas and Middle Tennessee State before moving to Miami.
This is the second time recently that Miami and Temple have been linked in regards to coaching. The first was when Al Golden turned a successful stint as Temple’s head coach into an opportunity to coach the Hurricanes.
Temple finished the 2018 regular season with an 8-4 record. That mark was good enough to earn an invite to the Independence Bowl.
They’ll face Duke in their bowl game on December 27.
