After losing Geoff Collins to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Temple Owls have found their next head coach. It appears the program will hire Miami defensive coordinator Manny Diaz.
The two sides were gaining momentum toward an actual deal this afternoon.
Diaz has spent three seasons at Miami, which leads the nation in pass defense and constantly performs well in the ACC. Now, he’ll have the opportunity to keep Temple trending in the right direction.
On Thursday, the Owls will introduce Diaz as their new head coach, per college football insider Brett McMurphy.

It’ll be tough for Diaz to instantly replicate the success that Collins had with the program, despite having decades of experience around the country. Temple finished the regular season with an 8-4 record and will face Duke in the Independence Bowl.
Even though this will be the first head-coaching job for Diaz, it’s clear that he can generate positive results from almost any defense. Nonetheless, the Owls will need to have patience with the 44-year-old coach.
Congratulations to Diaz for earning the opportunity.
