Temple Receives Praise From ESPN

Things are looking up.

The landscape of college football has changed dramatically in the past few years. The Big Ten Conference has 12 teams; the Big 12 Conference has 10 teams, and the Temple Owls are turning heads in the Big East Conference.

ESPN’s Big East blog named Temple the biggest surprise in the conference, in its midseason report. Most people did not give the owls a fighting chance in the Big East. Temple is 2-0 in conference play, which does not sound all that impressive on paper. However, this 2-0 record is the first winning streak Temple has had in the Big East, ever.

Temple’s next opponent is Rutgers this Saturday in Philadelphia. Rutgers is one of three teams in the Big East at 6-0, and is ranked 15th in the country. Despite Rutgers' record, Temple has a little bit of history on its side. Temple has bested Rutgers four straight times since 1999.

Even though Temple's undefeated conference record comes from a blocked field goal in the final minutes against South Florida, and an overtime win against UConn with four missed field goals by the Huskies kicker, the Owls are still 2-0. They have a legitimate shot to not just be bowl eligible, but to have an actual presence in the Big East.
