Temple's Bowl Chances

Are the Owls doomed?

Temple football has its backs against the wall with the remainder of its slate. There are three games left on the schedule, which is the exact number of wins the Owls need to become bowl eligible.

Temple's road to bowl season encounters its largest bump this Saturday when Temple plays Cincinnati in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field. Temple is coming into the game riding a three game losing streak, all of which have been conference games. Cincinnati, on the other hand, has only lost two games this season, one being an overtime loss to undefeated Louisville. The last two teams on the schedule for the Owls are the 4-5 Syracuse Orange and 2-7 Army, which are much more manageable games.

But the numbers are not helping Temple's case. Cincinnati leads the conference in offensive scoring, rushing, and is No. 2 in total offense. While Temple is seventh in offensive scoring, last in total offense, and last in total defense.

There is still a speck of hope for Temple. There have been talks between Temple and the University of Hawaii to play a final 12th game at Aloha stadium in early December. As time has passed, the chances of this 12th game have been growing, and with it Temple's bowl eligibility stays alive.

Temple's chances of playing in a bowl game are, as of now, not great. But as Lloyd Christmas once said, "So you're saying there's a chance," - crazier things have happened.
