The rich keep getting richer. Ahead of Clemson's season opener against Georgia Tech on Thursday evening, the Tigers have landed a commitment from a star player in the 2021 recruiting class.

Loganville (Ga.) Grayson running back Phil Mafah announced his commitment to the Tigers on Thursday afternoon. The 6-foot-1, 215 pound back is a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite.

Mafah's commitment is the first for Clemson in the 2021 class. Head coach Dabo Swinney's Tigers currently have the No. 1 class in the 2020 cycle. They're certainly looking to duplicate similar results in 2021.

The Georgia back ranks as the 13th-best available running back in his class. Overall, he's the 226th best prospect.

Mafah spoke with 247Sports detailing his thoughts regarding the commitment to Clemson.

"About a week after coach Elliott offered me, my family and people that I'm close with sat down and talked about the schools recruiting me. We felt like Clemson was the best fit for my football and academic career," Mafah said. "Every time I've been to Clemson it feels like home with the players and coaches."

The four-star back burst onto the recruiting scene after an impressive sophomore season. Mafah carried the ball 89 times for 720 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2018.

He also added a receiving touchdown last season.
