Clemson football is building what could wind up being one of the strongest recruiting classes ever, on paper. That doesn’t mean Alabama is ready to lay down to the Tigers, though.
The Crimson Tide are very familiar with the top of the recruiting rankings. A few years ago, when Georgia knocked them from the top of the rankings, it was the first time in recent memory that Alabama didn’t finish at No. 1, per 247Sports.
Right now, Clemson has a pretty sizable gap over ‘Bama. The Tigers are over 11 points clear of Nick Saban’s club, despite having three fewer players in the class, and have an higher average recruit score.
Still, it is far from over.
In the last week, three-star tackle Damieon George and two four-star linebackers—Demouy Kennedy and Quandarrius Robinson—have pledged to the Tide.
247Sports outlined over a dozen recruits who could ultimately help Alabama jump Clemson in this recruiting class.
Alabama doesn’t have room for all of them, but a decent haul from the group of available four- and five-star recruits could help vault them back to No. 1.
The nation’s No. 1 athlete Darnell Washington out of Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines could certainly end up in this Alabama class. They’re in the thick of it for four more terrific linebackers in five-stars Justin Flowe and Sav’ell Smalls along with 247Sports Composite Top50 recruits Phillip Webb (also looking at Clemson) and Noah Sewell.
Others on the official visit list moving forward include five-star running back Kendall Milton, five-star tight end Arik Gilbert and the top-ranked offensive guard in the country Justin Rogers who is committed to Kentucky and could also play defensive line.
Top247 recruits in Jacobian Guillory, Reggie Grimes, Omari Thomas, Henderson and Top247 cornerback Ethan Pouncey are a few other very notable names that have Alabama at the top or near the top of their lists. We could reel off more names like defensive end Zykeivous Walker or offensive lineman Chris Morris. Then there’s top-ranked dual-threat quarterback Bryce Young who’s been committed to local USC since last July but maintains a relationship with the Tide.
Clemson isn’t done either, and may wind up with more room to build on the impressive class it already has, which features five five-star players, three more than any other team. The race isn’t over quite yet.
