If this college football season continues heading down its current path, then Alabama and Clemson might be on a collision course for another championship showdown.
The Crimson Tide are rolling through the SEC, as they'll face the Georgia Bulldogs in the conference championship. Although this team hasn't been challenged much throughout the season, the Tigers might have the necessary talent to dethrone the defending champions.
Even former Alabama star Greg McElroy believes Clemson poses the biggest threat to his alma mater.
During an interview with the New York Post, McElroy was asked about which team can defeat the Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff. Well, he's clearly on board with the Tigers.
From the New York Post:
Probably Clemson. Just because of how (the Tigers have) been structured. They are so good along the defensive line. In order to match up with Alabama and somewhat neutralize their run game you have to be really stout defensively. Very few teams have the firepower to actually match up athletically with Alabama and they are one of them.
McElroy made an excellent argument for the Tigers, despite his connection with the Crimson Tide.
Clemson has one of the best defensive lines in the country, anchored by Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant. When it comes to the offensive side of the football, Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne carry the load for that unit.
Rematches aren't always intriguing, but another installment between the Crimson Tide and the Tigers would live up to the hype.
More importantly, Clemson possesses the talent to keep pace with this loaded Alabama roster.
