In the weeks after the College Football Playoff semifinal games, heavy money was on the LSU Tigers over defending national champion Clemson. Some sportsbooks got up to LSU -6.5, a big spread considering just how good Clemson is, coming off of a win over a great Ohio State team.
The line has been moving a lot in the run-up to the game. Over the last few days, things have swung back in Clemson’s direction, as bettors look to take advantage of that big number.
The spread has narrowed quite a bit, and now sits firmly in the “Vegas Zone” at many books. According to Darren Rovell, two major online books—SuperBookUSA and PointsBet Sportsbook—now have things down to LSU -4.5.
That’s still a lot of points for LSU to lay against the defending national champions, but it is a more attractive number if you like Ed Orgeron’s team here.

The line initially opened at around LSU -3.5, so this is much closer to where things began than where they were just a few days ago.
Something will have to give tonight.
According to Sports Illustrated‘s gambling vertical, Clemson is 9-5 against the spread this season, while LSU is 11-3. Given the big lines these two were facing for much of the year, both are very impressive numbers.
