Uiagalelei oozes physical talent, but has one issue he needs to work on, according to FS1’s Colin Cowherd. On “The Herd” this week, Cowherd said he wants to see the former five-star passer work on his finesse and touch with the ball.
“He is insane,” Cowherd said, via 247Sports. “His only issue is, everything’s a fastball, he’s got to learn tempo. But in terms of talent, size, arm, you’re like (wow).”
Clemson has made the College Football Playoff each of the last six seasons under three different starting quarterbacks: Lawrence, Kelly Bryant and Deshaun Watson. It will be on Uiagalelei to keep that streak going.
Cowherd believes he’ll be up to the task, with the help of a talented roster and favorable schedule.
“Do you know Clemson faces one ranked team all year?” Cowherd said. “And that is in their opener against Georgia. So whether or not I think Clemson is the best team and I think you could certainly make an argument they are, they’re gonna end up in the playoff. So even if they lose to Georgia, they’re gonna roll over the rest of their (schedule). They’ll probably have one or two close games.”
As a freshman, Uiagalelei completed 78-of-117 passes (66.7%) for 914 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in nine games. He also added four rushing touchdowns.
Even though the 2021 season hasn’t started, the sophomore QB has already landed a major endorsement deal with Dr. Pepper as part of the new NIL guidelines for student-athletes.
