The first week of the college football season is officially in the bag. Last night put a bow on Week 1, with Notre Dame’s road win over Louisville.
Now, the Associated Press Top 25 has also been updated. While the week did have some major upsets, they didn’t really impact the rankings much.
Oregon, which was No. 13 last week, was the only loss among the entire Top 25. Of course, it lost to Auburn, which jumps from No. 16 up to No. 10.
Here’s the full AP top 25:
- Ohio State
- Notre Dame
- Texas A&M
- Penn State
- Michigan State
- Washington State
- Boise State
Clemson leads the way with 54 first place votes, up two from the 52 the Tigers had in the preseason poll.
The biggest riser is Auburn, which made a six-spot leap with the Oregon win. Wisconsin and Stanford moved up two spots, while Boise State enters the Top 25 after a big win over Florida State
A few college football teams saw their rankings fall a bit, with the Ducks seeing the biggest drop (11 to 16). Florida fell from No. 8 to 11 after getting by Miami in Week Zero. Iowa State fell out of the Top 25 after being taken to overtime by FCS squad Northern Iowa, and are now first in the “also receiving votes” category.
Week 1 only featured one ranked match-up, in that Auburn-Oregon game. This week has a number of huge games, including No. 1 Clemson vs. No. 12 Texas A&M and No. 10 Texas vs. No. 6 LSU. While Week 1 contained plenty of fun for college football fans, Week 2 should provide even more drama for college football fans.
