Dabo Swinney responded to criticism from FOX Sports 1's Colin Cowherd after winning the national championship last night.
Back on November 29, Cowherd went on a diatribe about Swinney's Tigers, calling them "frauds" who didn't belong in the same breath as teams like Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and USC.
“Clemson’s a fraud. Clemson is going to get their ears boxed by whoever they play. They should have three losses, maybe four. I don’t buy into Clemson. They’re the New York Giants of college football. I don’t care what their record is. I don’t buy into them. And I had Clemson in the final four, so I should be rooting for them. I got no dog in the fight here. I think USC is the second-best team in the country and Vegas agrees.”
Of course, Michigan and USC couldn't crash the party, and Clemson wound up drubbing the Buckeyes last week, and edging out Alabama in the waning moments of last night's national championship. Swinney was asked about Cowherd's comments after the game, and he fired back in kind.
There are plenty of Clemson fans, and fans of other teams, that are nodding approvingly at that quote. We'll see what Cowherd has to say during his radio show this afternoon.
