Dabo Swinney Says He's Never Had A Freshman Like QB Deshaun Watson, 'Sammy Watkins Included'

Deshaun Watson has the chance to become a superstar. Clemson's freshman quarterback showed that on Saturday night during the Tigers' loss to Florida State, when he played well enough to earn the team's starting job this week against North Carolina. The five-star prospect in Clemson's 2014 recruiting class came in late in the first quarter against the Seminoles, and went 19-for-28 with 266 passing yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Today, Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney commented on how good Watson already is as a freshman, and based on what Swinney had to say, college football fans should expect Watson to become a household name sooner rather than later.

During Watkins' freshman year in 2011, he was among the best wide receivers in the country, as he caught 82 balls for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ran the ball 32 times for 231 yards, and was a dynamic return man. As you can see, Watson was a monster, so for Swinney to say that about Watson is a testament to how good he expects the quarterback to be some day.

Watson will make his debut as Clemson's starting quarterback on Saturday, Sept. 27, when the Tigers host North Carolina. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 P.M., and will air on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
