Which team should be considered the favorite for the College Football Playoff this year?
Clemson is the No. 1 seed in this year’s College Football Playoff, but many believe that the Tigers’ Sugar Bowl opponent, Alabama, is actually the favorite to win the event. ESPN’s David Pollack does not agree.
Pollack, speaking at the College Football Awards Show this past week, said that he thinks Clemson should be the favorite heading into New Year’s Day.
Here’s what he had to say, per 247 Sports. He also suggests that Clemson could be playing Oklahoma in the title game.
“I’d go Clemson,” Pollack said. “Clemson’s defensive line is dirty, by far the most talented front in the country. (They got) guys who can two-gap and consistently rush the passer. I would lean Clemson because down the stretch they’ve been the most complete team. I don’t think Clemson’s secondary has been tested that much. I think when they get tested, maybe Oklahoma in the championship game, that’s their weakness.”
Pollack and his ESPN colleagues will likely release their official playoff picks in the coming days.
