Emmitt Smith Going Off On Clemson For Playing Deshaun Watson On A Torn ACL

Saturday, Clemson freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson made his first start since November 15, leading his team to a win over arch rival South Carolina. After the contest, head coach Dabo Swinney shocked reporterswhen he told them that Watson had played the entire contest on a torn ACL. Swinney said that his star first-year signal-caller had actually torn it in practice last week, and that his knee brace "acted" as his ACL for the day.

Reaction has been mixed regarding the news. While some have focused on Watson's toughness, others have criticized the university for making the decision to put him on the field. Former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith made it clear which side he's taking.

">@ClemsonTigers Come on man. He's an amateur he's not a professional football player. And even if he was, an ACL.

">@ClemsonTigers Yes he did...What a courageous performance. It's his future that I'm looking at and the risk he took.

Smith clearly doesn't believe that Watson is being steered in the right direction regarding his future.

Watson is actually going to be playing in the team's bowl game as well before having surgery. This topic doesn't seem like it's one that's going to die any time soon.
