Bleacher Report Writer Predicts Hunter Johnson Will Start For Clemson Following Auburn Game

Clemson quarterback Hunter Johnson is second on the depth chart, but he might be starting by the second game of the season.

Freshman quarterback Hunter Johnson currently sits behind Kelly Bryant on the depth chart for Clemson after enrolling in January, but it's still anybody's guess who will lead the Tigers' offense following Deshaun Watson's departure.

According to Bleacher Report's David Kenyon, Johnson will take over the offense in Clemson's second game of the season versus Auburn, and after a stellar performance, head coach Dabo Swinney won't look back.

Per Bleacher Report.

Clemson is still searching for Deshaun Watson's successor, and the competition may linger into the regular season.

But once Dabo Swinney watches Hunter Johnson command the offense during an important home victory over Auburn in Week 2, the 10th-year coach will put his trust in the first-year quarterback.

Johnson, the No. 5 quarterback prospect in 2017, enrolled in January and participated in spring practice. He entered the summer behind Kelly Bryant on the depth chart, but a strong fall camp will result in Johnson securing an early opportunity to share snaps.

And that'll be all he needs.

Will that be what happens? It's certainly possible. The matchup against Auburn will be the Tigers' first real test as a team this season, and if Bryant flourishes, it's unlikely Swinney will be looking elsewhere for a quarterback. However, in the event Bryant crumbles under the pressure, Johnson will have a prime opportunity to show Clemson and its fans that he's the guy.
