Although the Clemson Tigers remain undefeated on the season, it’s pretty clear that the defending champions haven’t played up to their standards.
Joel Klatt hasn’t knocked Clemson in the past, but the FS1 analyst did take exception to all the buzz surrounding the ACC powerhouse.
During his time on FS1’s The Herd, Klatt revealed his rankings through seven weeks. He believes the Tigers are the seventh-best team in the country.
Colin Cowherd tried to make the argument that Clemson hasn’t played that well because it’s waiting for a real challenge. On the other hand, Klatt thinks Dabo Swinney’s team is getting a free pass because of last season.
“If you put any other emblem out there outside of Clemson or Alabama and you said “Here’s this team that has played far below expectations and have just a one-point win over a middling team with a first-year head coach,” you’d be crushing them. To put Clemson or evaluate them outside of what they’ve actually done I think is troublesome to say the least.”

Should Clemson be worried about making the college football playoff?

Klatt did make a few interesting points about the Tigers. However, the playoff committee wouldn’t leave out an undefeated Clemson team if that indeed happens.
Clemson did look impressive in its previous win over Florida State. Another blowout win could help quiet the naysayers for the next few weeks.
