During his press conference, Norvell was asked about his relationship with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. Last season, the Tigers canceled their contest against the Seminoles at the last second after a player tested positive for COVID-19.
That led to some unkind words between the two head coaches. Reporters asked Norvell if he’s spoken to Dabo since.
Here’s what he said, via 247Sports:
“Not really. We both have jobs to do and continue to invest in our programs. That’s my focus. At the end of the day, there’s really nothing to work out. Coaches can make statements. That’s the opportunity we all have. Everybody is entitled to an opinion they want to state.”
The Florida State head coach was also asked if there is any extra motivation for their looming matchup with Clemson on October 30.
“There’s no need for extra motivation,” Norvell said. “The last month of the season was one of the hardest months I’ve ever had to experience as a coach or as a player. There’s so much investment that goes into playing a game. The offseason, the work throughout the course of the week. We had three of our last four games that were canceled. It’s something that I hope we never have to experience in our coaching career again.”
Clemson hosts Florida State on October 30. A game time has yet to be determined.
