The top quarterback in the Class of 2020, DJ Uiagalelei, has been on Clemson’s radar for a long time. After making an unofficial visit to another potential suitor, Uiagalelei is reportedly close to making his decision.
In a recent interview with 247Sports, Uiagalelei announced that he is planning on making his decision in May. He clarified that he is still figuring things out, and has a lot to weigh between Clemson and Oregon.
“Right now, Im still figuring out the exact date of when I’ll announce but I’ll tweet that out soon. It will be in May sometime and I’m going to put out a video to release the news…”
Uiagalelei is coming off his final unofficial visit to Oregon, and has spoken glowingly about the Pac-12 giants. Oregon has not had the same level of recent success as Clemson, but has still developed plenty of quality quarterbacks.
“I’m still figuring things out but yeah, I have a good idea right now,” Uiagalelei said. “It’s tough because Oregon and Clemson are both great schools but really different in every way… Oregon fits me and I have a great connection with Clemson as well.”
The St. John Bosco quarterback is the No. 6 overall prospect in the Class of 2020, per 247Sports. He is the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the country, and the No. 2 prospect from the state of California.
Uiagalelei saw a massive improvement at high school last year. He finished his 2018 season with 48 touchdowns, only seven interceptions, plus 3,366 passing yards and a 69.6-percent completion rate.
With Clemson already in a position to get several of the top prospects in the Class of 2020, getting Uiagalelei could give the Tigers one of the best recruiting classes ever.
