Clemson and head coach Dabo Swinney are playing for their third national championship in four seasons tonight. The No. 3 Tigers will take on No. 1 LSU in New Orleans.
The last 10-plus years have been quite a ride for Swinney, who took over the program in a full-time capacity before the 2009 season.
Swinney has gone on to win two national championships, six ACC titles and 130 games.
Few head coaching hires in college football history – if any – have gone as well as Clemson’s decision to promote Swinney.
Not everyone was sold on Swinney at the time of his hire, though. The head coach was asked at his introductory press conference if he felt that Clemson was taking a “gamble” on him because he was unproven.
His response was direct: “No.”

Fast forward 10-plus years later and Swinney is hours away from becoming a three-time national champion.
