The Clemson Tigers' linebacker room took a significant hit on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report from 247Sports, former four-star linebacker recruit Shaq Smith entered the transfer portal. The former top recruit was in line for a starting role for the Tigers this season, but it seems he's ready to move on.

Smith, a rising redshirt junior, graduated from Clemson in May and is immediately eligible to play elsewhere as a graduate transfer.

The Maryland native may already know where he wants to transfer. According to the report from 247Sports, Smith asked schools not to contact him.

Smith has a "do not contact" tag attached to his portal entry, which implies he's requesting that other schools do not contact him.

The former four-star linebacker racked up 16 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack in limited action during the 2018 season. He had 14 tackles and and interception in 13 games in 2017.

Smith competed with Jamie Skalski, Isaiah Simmons and Chad Smith to round out the starting trio. With Shaq Smith's decision to transfer, Chad Smith could be in line to start.

Smith was the No. 3 inside linebacker recruit from the 2016 class, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings. He was the No. 81 overall recruit in the class.

Stay tuned for his transfer decision.
