Strong center play is incredible valuable in football. There's little surprise that the recruiting battle for Ryan Linthicum, the nation's top player at the position, is super competitive.

Linthicum hails from Maryland, where he's ranked fourth overall in the recruiting cycle. 247Sports ranks him No. 86 overall.

ACC power Clemson has been involved for the elite center. The team has his Damascus teammate in 2020, No. 2 overall recruit Bryan Bresee, committed right now. He visited the 2019 national champions himself earlier this month, and said that the Tigers are "very high on his list," according to TigerNet.

The Tigers are one of eight major programs that stand out for Linthicum.

Four-star, No. 1 center recruit Ryan Linthicum announced his top eight programs on Twitter.

Clemson is joined by LSU, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Of these programs, Maryland, Ohio State, and Virginia have also received unofficial visits over the last few months.

Linthicum's entering just his junior high school season, so there is plenty of time for other programs to get involved here and impress the elite prep offensive lineman.

As of today, recruiting experts don't seem to have an excellent beat on where he may end up. The site's crystal ball does not yet have a prediction.
